MOTORCADE FOR MEDICAID 7/26/2025
Hoosier Families Families Unite Across the State to Oppose Dangerous Medicaid Cuts
Medicaid Members, Families, & Healthcare Workers Coordinate Families First Day of Action
INDIANA– On Saturday, July 26, diverse Hoosiers from more than sixteen local organizations held events in cities and small towns across Indiana to demonstrate how federal cuts to essential health and food programs impacted our communities. Medicaid members, healthcare workers, faith, and community leaders shared their own experiences at events on Saturday, July 26, to underscore the importance of these programs to Hoosiers of every age, race, and ability across the state.
For our part, the Indiana Rural Summit, along with Organizing Indiana and the Community Action Coalition, coordinated a Motorcade for Medicaid. Below is how we did it:

On Saturday 7/26/25, we took to the roads—motorcade style—to show solidarity and to protect our hospitals across Indiana. These aren’t just highways and county roads; they’re the same routes we’ve all driven before:
• To visit loved ones in surgery
• To hold a friend’s hand in the ER
• To deliver new life into the world
• To sit vigil and say goodbye to a parent, elder, or partner
We drove these paths with all the emotions that come with them—fear, hope, worry, relief, even joy. This time, we drove them together, in solidarity, to make sure these hospitals remain open, and our communities have the care they need.
We invited Hoosiers to check out our route and join us wherever they could—drive the full path, meet us along the way, or show support from the roadside. Every hand, every car, every voice mattered.
We met at local hospitals and gathering spots, then converged in Salem, Indiana, for a press conference and solidarity celebration with patients, families, and caregivers who needed to see their community stand with them. This was a “grow as you go” event:
• If you were near a local starting/meeting point, you were invited to drive with us.
• If you were outside the route or couldn't make it to Salem, you were invited to create your own route or gather in your area and show support locally.
• Hoosiers shared their route, photos, and updates so we could connect all our efforts into one statewide wave of solidarity.
Together, we’re building a visible, rolling statement: our hospitals matter, our neighbors matter, and care can’t wait.
This schedule outlines the full route for the Motorcade for Medicaid event, which started at 9:00 AM. Participants could join for a single leg or the entire event. All routes ended in Salem for a press conference at 4:00pm.
